RYA Marine Radio Licence Assessments are normally held on Thursday afternoons at North Staffs Sailing Club, Stanley Reservoir, Puddy Lane, Stanley, Stoke-on-Trent, ST9 9LS. So if you require an Assessment please use the Register Now button and we can agree on a date and time.
Conduct of the assessment:
Prior to the exam, you will be allowed approx. 30 min to familiarise yourself with the controls, menus, and functions of Simrad RD68 radios we will be using during the session. You will be provided with handbooks along with a ‘Quick start’ guide for the Radios and may have any books, or training material you require with you at this time. All these will be removed prior to the practical exam starting.
Practical assessment:
This session will last up to 45 minutes per candidate and you will have access to a dedicated training radio for the duration of the Assessment.
Theory assessment paper:
The written paper has a time limit of 30 minutes. Additional time may be allowed for those who have reading problems such as those with dyslexia. The MCA guidance is to allow 8 minutes for this length of the exam. The written paper is a ‘closed book ‘exam.
